In October 2019, a CanAfro team was proud to be involved with the Rock-Hewn Churches Project of the University of Toronto. We contributed to the work of the university’s team, led by Professor Michael Gervers, which documented the ancient and modern tradition of carving churches out of the living rock. This research recorded the skills of master craftsmen and preserved oral accounts of a rich architectural heritage.
